Made by Niki: Atomic

Made by Niki has launched its new collection "Atomic" 3 months early due to the high demand.
The collection features allover fringed halterneck bras, bodys and knickers in two-tone shades.
The stunning, hand made collection which was inspired by the secrets of the universe is priced between £125-£339. I for one will be saving my pennies but if you think this is a bit pricey why not take full advantage of their cyber monday sale before its too late. Many pieces from their previous collections are £20 and under!!

What is your favourite piece from the new collection?

The Honey Trap prints

I designed these prints in Illustrator and coloured them in Photoshop. The prints were made by taken parts of the enigma machine which i researched (read previous post for more on inspiration)and making patterns with it, i then added stripes, barbed wire and chains to give it a more sinister feel.

The patterns were then sent off to be printed onto silk viscose satin. Top two prints are repeats and the bottom one is a placement print.

In my next post i will show you some of my illustrations and initial design ideas.

The Honey Trap Inspiration

Hello,

Hope you are all well! Its been a while since i last blogged but i promise to make sure it becomes a more regular occurrence now that i have a bit more time on my hands. I have been working on a new collection over the past months and the next few posts will be documenting my work from inspiration through to the final garments.

The Initial inspiration for my new collection came from the Exposed: voyeurism, surveillance and the camera exhibition at the Tate Modern. Exposed offered a look at pictures made on the sly, without the explicit permission of the people depicted. This exhibition led me to look into espionage and most notably, the lives of well-known female spies including Mata Hari, Josephine Baker and Noor Inayat Khan. Further research showed many spies were hired to seduce their target (this method is known as the ‘honey trap’) With this in mind i wanted my collection to be quite seductive and colourful to represent the colourful lives of the women i researched.

Spies who were caught often ended up in concentration camps or were killed, i decided to design my own prints based on the enigma machine and incorporated chains, barbed wire and stripes to give it a more sinister feel.( i will be doing a post showing the prints soon). The collection was also influenced by 1940’s fashion.

The collection has been designed for spring/summer 2012 is made up of lingerie and nightwear pieces.

More to come soon
